Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, praised Repowering’s co-ops at a recent talk hosted by the St Paul’s Institute at St Paul’s Cathedral, London.
Figueres, who was appointed to her current role in 2010, has for many years been a key proponent of climate change awareness at the intergovernmental level. She has contributed to the design of key climate change instruments, and has been involved in Kyoto Protocol negotiations.
The event brought together the United Nations, churches, investors, security experts and environmentalists to highlight the importance of collective action on climate change. It was great to hear Bannister House solar co-op in Hackney and the Loughborough Estate solar co-ops in Brixton mentioned as examples of community groups which strive to achieve energy efficient, low carbon futures for their members.
